Apivar® – Proven Varroa Mite Control

Apivar® is one of the world’s most trusted treatments for controlling Varroa destructor in honey bee colonies. Containing amitraz as its active ingredient, Apivar’s slow-release strips provide long-lasting, highly effective mite control by allowing bees to distribute the treatment naturally throughout the brood nest.

How to Use

  1. Remove honey supers intended for human consumption before treatment.
  2. Place 2 Apivar strips per brood chamber (or as directed on the product label).
  3. Position the strips between brood frames where bees are actively moving.
  4. Leave the strips in the hive for 6–10 weeks.
  5. Remove all strips promptly at the end of the treatment period.

Always follow the APVMA-approved product label and rotate treatment products with different active ingredients to help minimise the risk of resistance.

Best Time to Treat

Apivar is typically applied after honey harvest or during periods when honey supers have been removed. Regular monitoring of mite levels before and after treatment is recommended to assess colony health and treatment effectiveness.
